Exhibition Title: A Single Moment

Photographer:  Haik Kocharian

Location: 931 T Street, Sacramento, CA 95811

Telephone: (916) 442-6014

"Our life is nothing more then accumulation of countless moments. They are not all extraordinary or memorable in fact, most come and go unnoticed as we rush through our busy daily tasks. And yet, each single moment is important. A small, self contained capsule of time, it evokes an emotion that can effect us on a profound human level.  In some ways my work is a direct visual representation of those same moments. People I encountered, places I’ve been, relationships I’ve experience. It is also a constant and perhaps subconscious attempt to stop the time, to take a pause, to marvel the surrounding world and hopefully, to tell the story of a very quick passing moment in life."

Fig. 4

Verge Gallery and Studio Project presents Fig. 4, an exhibition of figurative works by four artists. The show includes bay area artists Eiko Sugi, Patricia Gillespie, and Bethany Ayres, and Sacramento based artist Jacob Fossum. Though their methods vary, from Sugi's delicate cut paper silhouettes, to Fossum's masterful oil paintings, to Gillespie's mixed media works, and Ayres' bright enamel on wood paintings; all four artists engage the viewer with their representations of the human figure in scenes of open ended narrative. Because of the implied, yet ambiguous nature of the narrative in the work, the viewer is invited to fill in the blanks, and consider issues of identity, symbolism, the irony found in the everyday, and beyond.

The exhibition runs October 25 through December 13, with opening and closing receptions on November 8 and December 13 from 6-10 pm.

The Verge Gallery is Sacramento's newest and largest contemporary art space. Boasting over 3,000 square feet, The Verge is poised to become a regional art destination. In the coming months area art goers can expect to see works from national and international artists in all genres and mediums. The Verge will provide area art goers with a vital new voice and venue for contemporary work.
